A bit about Joseph: "I was born in the San Joaquin valley of California and grew up on Portuguese milk dairy, where being close to nature and the cycle of life was very influential on my imagination. I lost my Father at a young age and have had a couple near death experiences. This has had a huge effect on my work and perception of life and the world in general. I have done a lot of traveling within the U.S. and now currently reside in Eugene, Oregon."
Artist Statement: "I am a self taught painter, and haven’t stopped since I began in 2002. I also create sculpture from found object material consisting mainly of bicycle tires, plastics, and other non-biodegradable materials. Art is the food I need to survive, creating and being around it is essential to my well being. Painting is what keeps me going, it’s the vehicle I use to express and document my experiences in life. When I began painting it was a very therapeutic experience, I instantly felt complete and realized that this is what I am going to do for the rest of my life. Happiness comes in different forms for everyone, what brings peace and joy to my life is art, but most importantly the process of creating it."
