a polygraph test
where
the unwashed tester
administrates
behind a thick film
of black
and white nostalgia.

INTERVIEW FOR A POSITION OF PROSPERITY

The applicant
was asked not to sit
but rather to stand.
He did so self consciously
for he had become
of temporary interest
to the other applicants.
His small feet
negotiated
the carpet-less floor.
A spot to stand
near the window
became available,
but as he initiated
it was immediately taken.
The other applicants
watched, waited.
He hesitated then,
minus his adversary's
throat in hand,
retreated through
an inward door.

TWO DRY WIPES, A WIPE WITH CREAM,
ONE DRY WIPE, TWO WIPES WITH CREAM
AND SO ON..........

This blunt
belligerent,
repetitiveness
is bordering on
catatonic
in an event
that's as ordinary
as moving one's bowels.
