Universe #1

The universe swirls clockwise
Spinning into duotone contrast
An instantaneous flash
With the resolve a good solid thwack
Against the side of your head

In an echoing expanse
Of sight and sound and migraine headaches
The universe slides in and out
While infinity rears its ugly head

The Mad Dash

Swim through the sea
Of bitter nobodies
In the mad dash
Between imaginary locales
Of shadow and primal fantasy

Drown in the current
Of defaced candor
Slipping through the streams
Between them

Time

Once the flame burns down
Past the knuckle
An hour has gone by
An hour, in your evaporated flesh
And fat, in your fluid
The burning hurts but you don’t mind
You need to know the time of day

Fresh Blood

Here with me around the fire
Crackle in the nighttime
Roiling up the ash and smoke
Warmer than cherub cheeks
Braided into blazing strands

There is sugar painted onto your flesh
Glowing white near the blaze
And traced around your lips
We are journeying through the midnight revelry
The cultish flavor of the new thing

We are the
Sweet and tainted love
Spoiled in the syrupy glisten of
Honey, and viscous like the slow drop
Of fresh blood

Two Suns

The western sun and the eastern sun
Change faces, donning
Blush and rosy cotton
And smile in that lackadaisical style
With modest glory of keeping
The whole world afloat
They switch places like the
Changing of the guard
And slope off into distant places
Where it is time for the roosters
To call in the new day
And one where it is time
To sleep

A bit about Sam: Sam Meizlish is a high school student living in Bexley, Ohio. He is an aspiring philosopher, photographer, artist, and poet. He is on the border of careful construction and beautiful mess, just beyond the fringe of self-control. He enjoys the outdoors and the open sky, and writing, and painting. He is a firm believer in the Oxford comma. He hates haircuts. Go figure.
